Puerto Rico leads efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a clean energy economy in pursuit of a sustainable future. Through strategic planning and collaboration, Puerto Rico aims to improve air and water quality, protect ecosystems, and build resilient communities, fostering a healthier and more prosperous island for generations to come.

Key targets and metrics:

Renewable energy: 40% by 2025, 60% by 2040, 100% renewable energy generation by 2050 with a full reduction in fossil fuel use

Emissions targets: Reduce island-wide greenhouse gas emissions to half of 2005 levels by 2025 (26.7 million metric tons CO2)

Transportation: Encourage adoption of electric or low-emission vehicles; full electric or low-emission government fleet by 2028

Ecosystem management: Spearhead land restoration through planting 500,000 native or endemic trees by 2025
